Games Closet 4 – Tobie Abad

Games Closet 4 – Tobie Abad

Hello friends! And welcome to another great episode of the Riverhouse Games Podcast. We’re doing another Games Closet episode this time, talking to a super cool designer from Manila named Tobie Abad. Tobie has a super cool game out now called A Single Moment, about two Samurai facing off and the road that led them there. I talk to Tobie about the gaming scene where he lives in the Phillipines, what it was like writing Samurai games, and how to use Romantic Comedies to make your games better. While you’re listening to this episode you should go check out Tobie’s work on Drivethru RPG. Well, that does it for this intro, let’s get to the show! Check out his Patreon!

Game Closet 3 – Nyssa & Chris

Game Closet 3 – Nyssa & Chris

Hello friends! This is Taylor, and you’re listening to another great episode of The Riverhouse Games Podcast. We’ve got another Game Closet this week, talking to two awesome ladies, Chris from The Leviathan Files, and Nyssa, a Canadian gamer currently working on an audio drama for the Firefly podcast. I talk to them about their experiences as trans women in gaming spaces, how to deal with problem players, and the places they love to be in. We did have our fair share of internet problems during this recording but I managed to edit out the worst of it. That said, the first about 6 minutes of Chris’s audio is totally lost, so bear with us until she pops in. So without further ado, here’s Game Closet number three with Nyssa and Chris!

Critical Theory 2 – Sharing the Narrative with Paul from Swordnut Radio

Critical Theory 2 – Sharing the Narrative with Paul from Swordnut Radio

Hello friends, and welcome back to another episode of The Riverhouse Games Podcast. This week we have another episode of Critical Theory. I was joined by friend of the show, Paul, all the way from England to talk about how the traditional tabletop party can be seen as a singular force in the narrative of games. We also talk about shared imagination and memories, and he even gives me a crash course in how to say Fuck like a proper Englishman. Paul has his own show, Swordnut Radio which you can find on iTunes, Podbean, and Google Play. Let’s get right into the show!

Critical Theory: A literary analysis of a game’s text & practice, going over the questions raised by the text or the way the game plays. Cross-disciplinary approaches to tabletop gaming, or close reading of specific pieces of game text.
